Shoreham Elementary School
Principal's Notes
September 3, 2010
Welcome Back!
Despite the heat, we've had a great start to the school year! We hope your child has lots of information to share with you about their school day and their first few days back at school! In future Principal's Notes, sent home on most Fridays, look for a section titled, 'Ask About'. The 'Ask About' section will contain words or phrases that can be asked of students to help promote dialog and sharing about their school experience. From the first few days, ask any K-6 student about our school 'spaces' or recess activities.
New Faces
In addition to the eleven new Kindergarten students this year we welcomed two new second graders and a new sixth grader. Sarah Flinn is our Art teacher and Justine Logan is teaching first grade. Ally Schaffer is student teaching in third grade. Fiona Corrigan is student teaching in Kindergarten and is working in the Extended Day Program. Please welcome new students and staff to our school community.
Notify the school of absence!
It is likely that at some time your child will be sick and may need to miss school. If your child is out sick, please call the school to notify Irene. If your child is absent and we haven't been notified, we will try to contact you to verify their absence. If you know in advance that your child will be absent, please notify the school. We wish everyone a healthy fall! Here at school we will be taking precautions to help keep germs from spreading to help keep everyone healthy. Our nurse, Eva McDonough is in Shoreham on Wednesdays and Fridays should you have any questions. Irene Cadoret is the health assistant on days that our school nurse is not in Shoreham.
Arrival Time
Students arriving after 7:45 am will need to stop in the office to sign in! Please note the time is a little earlier than in previous years. Students taking the bus come inside our building at 7:40 am and head directly to their classrooms. Students begin morning routines and preparation for the day at 7:40 am. If you are transporting your child to school, please bring them by 7:45 am. Arrivals after 7:45 are tardy and put students at a disadvantage for starting their school day.
Meals & Milk Payments Reminder Payments are expected for meals and milk before they are consumed. If your child anticipates ordering milk or meals at school please send in pre-payment. Balances will be sent home at the end of the month. Families are able to call and receive an up to date balance of their child's meals/milk account.
Reminder:
No School on Monday, September 6th. We hope you enjoy the anticipated cooler weather and long weekend with your family!
