When October arrives with it comes NECAP. Students have completed the reading section of the assessment and in the coming week will complete the math section. 5th graders will have an additional writing section to complete as well. Please help us in encouraging your student to do their best for the test!
We are very excited for the beginning of our adventures at STARBASE next Tuesday! Please remember that students need to bring their own lunch and snacks. They will be on-the-go A LOT! This will be an opportunity for teamwork and collaboration. Be sure to inquire about each new adventure.
Daily we have the opportunity to learn new words. Sometimes we learn those words in math and sometimes we learn them in our morning exploration. New words come to us even in our read aloud. Some current new words 5th graders have worked with are: area, dimension, range, mode, median, mean, commence and vague.
In the coming weeks we will be connecting our writing in class to some homework assignments. Each new assignment will mirror what we do in class and what students are asked to do for homework. Please use this opportunity to see what types of things we are doing for writing in class. We are always learning new strategies and stretching our imagination in our writing. The main focus thus far has been looking for ideas in our writing. Good story ideas can be formed from important events in our own lives.
*Reminder: Students should be reading AT LEAST 20 minutes a night and recording it in their weekly reading log.
