Shoreham Elementary School
WELCOME TO THE 2011 / 2012 SCHOOL YEAR!
We've had a great start to the school year! It was nice to have students back in our building this week. Students enjoyed re-connecting with old friends and meeting new friends. Classrooms are developing common expectations and are working to establish routines. We hope your child has lots of information to share with you about their school day and their first week back at school!

School Year Volunteer Opportunities
Meals Program
Last year Rebecca Corkins volunteered in our meals program assisting Dot. She is no longer able to continue volunteering. We need volunteers who are able to make a regular commitment to helping in our school kitchen. We need someone to help with breakfast between 9:00 - 10:00 am each day and also a volunteer for an hour or two each afternoon beginning around noon.

School House Banking
Next year, we will be offering the National Bank of Middlebury School House Savings Program to our students. In order to do that, we need a few parent volunteers to help with the program. Chris Laroche has volunteered to help oversee the program and will need additional parents to help.

Food for Thought
Last year was our first year of our Food for Thought reading mentor program. If you are interested and able to commit to a weekly visit to our school between 11:30-12:30, please consider becoming a reading mentor!

Friday Exploration Groups
We are looking for a variety of adults in the community with any special talents, interests and passions they'd like to share with students during our Friday Exploration Sessions. We've had exploration leaders teach Spanish, gardening, chess, share children's literature, tae-kwon-do, and many more offerings. If you are interested and able to commit to Friday afternoons from 1:15-2:30 for a six week session, please consider becoming a Friday Exploration leader. A small stipend may be available as grant funds allow.

ACSU Study Committee
The town school boards of the Addison Central Supervisory Union have formed a Study Committee, as defined under Vermont law, to investigate the formation of a Regional Education District. Visit the website to gather information and join in the discussion of the educational and financial implications of this important school and community issue.
